Dear friends,
For November, I have decided to embark upon a rather succinct history of science fiction in four parts. Beginning with Mary Shelley, we will journey through Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, Isaac Asimov and Frank Herbert, and finally Bruce Sterling and the cyberpunk writers of ‘the Movement’. As ever, my interest is our principles for living, for which science fiction was once an exemplary source of salient reflections.
100 Subscribers!
It is my pleasure and delight to report that we have now reached a hundred subscribers - my thanks to each and every one of you for joining me in this journey of discovery! To celebrate, I am offering a half-price subscription for the next fortnight:
Alternatively, the offer for a 20% forever discount remains:
If you want to take both, sign up with the 50% offer now and I will vouch to offer you renewal at the 20% off forever rate whenever it becomes due. Please let me know in the comments if you want to take advantage of this.
Joining the Stranger Travellers by either method means you can engage in the lively discussions that occur in the comments. In effect, you are paying for the time I will spend discussing anything and everything with you, but I prefer to see this as just another way of lending your support to this eclectic philosophy project.
Also, I am happy to trade paid subscriptions for more or less anything, including exchanging paid subscriptions for other established Substacks. Comments to this post are open, so please let me know if you wish to discuss joining the Stranger Travellers through creative barter.
Stranger Voices
And for those already among us, you may have noticed that I expanded the role of Stranger Voices! I am now also accepting links (with or without commentary) from any and all paid-or-bartered subscribers to other essays that reflect upon our principles for living for inclusion in the quasi-monthly Bazaar. You can even promote your own pieces if you wish.
I have updated the ‘Submissions’ tab accordingly - but basically, just email me or leave a comment anywhere if you have something to share that feels aligned with this project. I’ll be glad to include it in the next Bazaar.
With unlimited love,
Chris.
