Dear friends,
The theme for March is ‘Habit’, and was suggested by an exchange with Frank (although I fear I may have failed to address what Frank’s comments originally addressed). Our story plays out as a journey backwards in time and then forward again. Starting in the twentieth century with Mary Midgley, we then venture back to one of the leading philosophers in 19th century France, then further back to the closing years of the 18th century in Germany, before returning to the twentieth century to finish. Along the way, we’ll be digging into aspects of freedom and rationality that are intimately connected to our habits, all the while keeping our current prejudices about consciousness clearly in the rear view mirror.

Hi Chris,
I’ve been away for awhile for various reasons, but I’m back now. Looking forward to rejoining our dialogue. This month looks especially interesting.
